AFD Side Event- From Long-Term Strategies to financing strategies and implementation
Title: From Long-Term Strategies to financing strategies and implementation The long-term low-emission and resilient development strategies (LT-LEDS or LTS) and associated studies will help decision-makers commit to ambitious country development paradigm shifts. They shall inform the national plans of investments and regulatory reforms with short, medium and longer-term horizons. LTS processes feed the financial partnerships and strategic dialogue between countries and the international financing institutions. To be realistic and implementable, they also crucially need to be financially sustainable at the national level. Integrating transition risk modelling into the exercises with a view to looking at fiscal and financial consequences and opportunities, as well as various financing options for multiple levels of economic agents and sectors, becomes essential in that respect. Physical risks, as well as land use and eco-systemic limits, are also part of the equation leading to the implementation of LTS. Organized by AFD on the NDC Partnership Pavilion. NDCs 3.0 Regional Forum for Africa
NDCs 3.0 Regional Forum for Africa- October 7 - 9, 2024In 2025, countries are required to submit new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). These plans are known as NDCs 3.0. In these NDCs, countries are encouraged to set 2035 ambitious, economy-wide emission reduction targets that align with limiting global warming to 1.5°C and increase resilience to climate impacts. To help countries shape the next round of their climate pledges under the Paris Agreement, UNEP, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the NDC Partnership, in collaboration with the UNFCCC Secretariat (UN Climate Change), are organizing NDCs 3.0 Regional Fora. Regional Forum for Africa, from 7 to 9 October 2024 hosted by the government of Rwanda in Kigali

Workshop on Empowering African Countries to Fast-Track Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) Preparation
Who: African Development Bank, with support from the UNFCCC Secretariat, the Commonwealth Secretariat, COP29 Presidency & UNEP When: 9–11 September, 9:00–17:00 hrs (EAT/GMT+3) Where: Nairobi, KenyaThe workshop will provide targeted technical support to developing countries in the African region, enabling them to fast-track the preparation of their first Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs). The workshop aims to create momentum and assist Parties in the final stages of their BTR preparation through "troubleshooting sessions," ensuring timely submission. The agenda is informed by discussions from the CGE workshop for the Africa Region, held from May 8 to 10, 2024, in Zimbabwe.Specific ObjectivesProvide in-depth technical advice on applying the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) modalities, procedures, and guidelines, including the use of Common Reporting Tables (CRTs) and Common Tabular Formats (CTFs), supplemented by practical one-on-one coaching.Facilitate peer feedback and exchange among workshop participants on their ongoing work in different BTR chapters.Promote the sharing of lessons learned and experiences, particularly in overcoming technical challenges, by leveraging existing data and information from Biennial Update Reports (BURs), National Communications (NCs), and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).Build the confidence of developing countries to submit their BTRs as early as possible in 2024. The outcome of the workshop is to bring the BTRs of participating countries closer to completion, facilitating their timely submission in December 2024.
