South Africa faces the challenge of climate change as a developing country, with overriding priorities to eliminate poverty and eradicate inequality. The adverse effects of climate change have been a stark reality for South Africa for many years. The evidence clearly emphasises the need to build resilience and adaptive capacity to understand and respond to climate change risk and vulnerability. South Africa is committed to cooperative efforts to adapt to the unavoidable adverse impacts of climate change.
