Country Brief
Eritrea is situated in the north-eastern part of Africa. Agriculture including farming and pastoralism are the main sources of livelihoods for more than 80% of the labour force. The agricultural sector mainly depends on rainfed production with less than 10% of the available arable land put under irrigation. On the other hand, for most parts of the year, the population remains food insecure as the result of climate change and land degradation. Eritrea is committed to embark on carbon -neutral sustainable development pathway and has prepared its Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (INDC) for the period 2020-2030.
