Country Brief

The Benin Republic is located in West Africa in the Gulf of Guinea. Benin has a status of a Least Developed Country (LDC) whose economy chiefly relies on agriculture, trade and transportation with bordering countries. Benin is particularly vulnerable to climate change variability whose consequences are felt both at national and local levels. Awareness of climate change-related challenges has induced Benin’s development and adoption of several policies, strategies and response programmes and the period of implementation of the programmes range from 2021 to 2030. The country has submitted it's First NDC and Long term low carbon and climate-resilient development strategies (LTS) on 12 December 2016 but has not yet submitted an updated NDC and  NAPs.
